Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old from Jerusalem who was born in California, was last seen on 7 October when Hamas militants loaded him into the back of a pickup with other hostages abducted from the Supernova festival. His mother, Rachel Goldberg, described him as a survivor. “He’s not like this big, bulky guy,” she told the Associated Press. “But I think that survival has a lot to do with where you are mentally.” Source: The Guardian

Hersh, I did not know you, but feel like I did because your beautiful parents shared their voice, prayers and stories of you. I learned that you loved chocolate chip cookies, music, your friends, travel, basketball and hoped to use your love of sports to connect people, even those with very different backgrounds. I am so incredibly sorry that your life was stolen from you and the people who loved you. I will think about you, your family, and all of the hostages and hostage families for the rest of my life.
