In Loving Memory of the Innocent Souls Taken Too Soon. United in peace, their light shines on in the hearts left behind. October 7, 2023, a day of sorrow, but their memories guide us toward a hopeful tomorrow.
Hamas terrorists murdered an entire young family in their home at Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7: Tamar Kedem Siman Tov; her husband, Yonatan (Johnny); her mother-in-law Carol Siman Tov; two 6-year-old daughters, Shahar and Arbel; and son Omer, aged 4.
Tamar, 35, reportedly sent friends a message on WhatsApp saying, “Hi guys, we got into the shelter in our house, we’re all going (sic) okay.”
An hour later, she stopped answering messages.
It emerged later that terrorists had entered the protected room and slain the entire family.
Friends have been eulogizing the family on Facebook.
Rotem Abutbul said she had first met Tamar Kedem 11 years ago, “single and young with a desire to change things.”
Until the war, Kedem — described as a community leader and activist for women’s rights — had been campaigning to head the Eshkol Regional Council in local elections, which have now been postponed countrywide.
“We always said we’d hear a lot about you, but never imagined that it would be in our worst nightmares,” she said.
Yonathan “Johnny” Siman Tov was an operations manager and grew wheat in Kibbutz Nir Oz.
Posts on his Facebook page were full of publicity for his wife’s campaign.
