In Memoriam of:

Rafi Mordechai

Age: 85

From: Tel Aviv/Kibbutz Be'eri

In Loving Memory of the Innocent Souls Taken Too Soon. United in peace, their light shines on in the hearts left behind. October 7, 2023, a day of sorrow, but their memories guide us toward a hopeful tomorrow.

Rafi Mordechai, z"l, was murdered in his home in Kibbutz Be'eri.

Rafi was born in Tel Aviv on November 28, 1938, less than a year before the Second World War, and was destined to live a complex life full of ups and downs. As a child, he lost an eye in a game accident.

At the age of 14 or 15 he came to Be'eri and never left. Kibbutz life and handicrafts suited Rafi. Worked initially in auto mechanics and later at Barry Printing. He was diligent, appreciated and loved the work very much. His golden hands built beds and wardrobes for many members of the kibbutz.

For a relative or a friend, he did as much as he could but always in his unique way: and gracefully, he said what was on his heart. "He could get up from lunch to drive someone who asked for help." Rafi had a number of children and grandchildren.

The axis between loyalty and criticism was also in his relationship to the kibbutz. Every day he would argue about the consequences of privatization - complaining passionately about the return that the members get from taxes - but he always remained a Be'eri man.
