Nir Porti, z"l, from Omer, was murdered at the Nova nature party.
He and his partner for the past year, the late Shai Regev, tried to escape They arrived from the party in the car they came with, but when they realized there was no way to escape, they ran into the bushes and hid there until the terrorists discovered them and shot a large number of bullets into their upper bodies. Regev's body was found about a week after the massacre, Porti was identified only 17 days later.
Nir was born and raised in the settlement of Omer, near Beer Sheva, the son of Zakonum to Tova and Ali and a younger brother to Efrat, Michal and Tamar. As a child he was diagnosed as gifted and his parents talk about a beloved and exceptionally smart boy. In his youth, he was an instructor in the youth movement "Noam" (a pan-Israeli organization that maintains community life in the country while emphasizing Jewish, Greek, and Israeli identity), and before enlisting in the 50th Battalion of the Nahal Brigade, he joined a year of service for the nucleus at Kibbutz Ketura in the Arava.
Nir has blossomed in the last year. After several years in which he worked in sales in Berlin and completed coaching studies, he returned to Israel, moved to Tel Aviv and during the last two years worked as a business development representative at Med-Tech. About a year ago he met Regev, and the two fell in love and even moved to live together in Tel Aviv last September.
"Nir and Shai were a couple in love and happy, and were supposed to fly to Madrid this month to celebrate their relationship and his birthday. Instead, we friends celebrated him without them at a bar in Tel Aviv with beer and a lot of tears. He was also praised at work and progressed very quickly, and at the same time he registered for philosophy studies and was satisfied with his ability to successfully combine all his loves. He was in the best period of his life, and everything was cut off at once."
