In Loving Memory of the Innocent Souls Taken Too Soon. United in peace, their light shines on in the hearts left behind. October 7, 2023, a day of sorrow, but their memories guide us toward a hopeful tomorrow.
First Sgt. (res.) Nachman Natan Hertz, z"l, a fighter in the 6551 patrol battalion was killed by an explosive Hezbollah drone explosion in the Metula area. Hertz, 31 years old from Elazar leaves behind his wife and two young children.
"Your message is that everyone will be strong Jews, no matter what age. Every Jew should think that he is a fighter against our cruel enemies who want to destroy us," added the father. "I am a second generation of the Holocaust, my mother and father hid like mice in France, that the Nazis would not catch them. You are our warrior and will always be our warrior."
His wife Joanna paid tribute to him in tears: "My Nachman, the love of my life, I just don't know how to describe what I feel. My heart is broken. I won you, a perfect husband and father. You were always there for me, and I'm still shocked that I'm talking about the past. I want you now, the girls need you. I want you to smile at me, to make faces at me, to speak in French with the sweetest accent. I need a hug from you.
"We were a couple of parents but mostly a team, we were a great team. We were there for each other. We always loved each other and always respected each other," she added. "Never alone. No one is alone, because we were alone most of our lives until we met. You are my half, and now that you are gone, I feel lonely. I always imagined that we would grow old together, how do I continue now?".
His brother Naftali eulogized him: "You are not only a war hero, but my private hero and all of us, I'm sure everyone's as well. I'm writing to you with the last tears I still have left. It's not easy to receive the news. Natan, you're a brother who always felt the other, Always when someone needed something you would give your all and your heart. You will always be in our memory."
