In Memoriam of:
Maor Eisenkot
Age: 19
From: Eilat
In Loving Memory of the Innocent Souls Taken Too Soon. United in peace, their light shines on in the hearts left behind. October 7, 2023, a day of sorrow, but their memories guide us toward a hopeful tomorrow.
Maor Eisenkot, z"l, a soldier in the 12th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, fell in battle in the Gaza Strip. Maor is the nephew of Cabinet member, Minister and former Chief of General Staff of the IDF, Gadi Eisenkot. Maor's cousin, Gal Meir Eisenkot, z"l, fell in battle just two days earlier.
His mother Sharon Eisenkot, wrapped in a Golani unit flag with Maor's picture printed on it, cried out on the fresh grave "It can't be, I want my son". When Maor's coffin wrapped in an Israeli flag entered the military cemetery, hundreds of Eilat residents who came to honor Maor on his last journey waved Israeli flags.
Efrat Zaks - principal of the Goldwater High School in Eilat, where the late Maor studied, Eli Lankri - Mayor of Eilat, Matan Levy - representative of the members, Elinoi his cousin and Sharon's mother with her children Aden and Almog . Everyone told about his noble personality, his pleasant character, his good qualities, the courage and kindness of the one who was the anchor of the family, the brave warrior, the beloved brother and son.
Maor's mother spoke about his desire to continue a military career, in the Mossad or in the Shin Bet after his regular service. I didn't let my endless worries get in the way of your choices, I worry and go crazy if you're five minutes late and you don't answer me. Maori, you have always been my pride, the pride of all of us," she said.
"A family is like a table that stands on four legs, today we lost a leg and nothing will be stable and will not be the same," she said. "Your role is not over, from wherever you are you will help me get out of the pit and bereavement that has opened up under me, spread your wings over me and your brothers. It hurts me so much and my soul burns to see your brothers suffer."
The commander of the 12th battalion of the Golani unit Lt. Col. Omer Suleiman eulogized him: "Maor was trained at the brigade school, and from there he was assigned to the command department, a department where the fighters are designated and developed to become leading commanders in the battalion. Maor, as your name is, a source of light. A source of Proud of being a fighter for the country. Just as we light the Hanukkah candles, and celebrate the heroism of the Maccabees, so too will your strength and bravery continue to light our way and our way forward forever.
Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri: "Maor, one of the best sons of Eilat and the State of Israel, was a brave fighter, an athlete and a valued player in the Maccabi Eilat football club, a serious and respectful student, well-liked and loved by his friends and a good son to his parents. Maor did not seek to be a hero, but he belongs to a generation of heroes, brave warriors - the Maccabees of today, who stood on the front line, in the field of fire, fought fiercely and fell to save their people. Maor also belongs to a family of heroes, the Eisenkot family, whose roots are deeply rooted in the city.
