In Memoriam of:

Elimelech Wasserman

Age: 73

From: Jerusalem

In Loving Memory of the Innocent Souls Taken Too Soon. United in peace, their light shines on in the hearts left behind. October 7, 2023, a day of sorrow, but their memories guide us toward a hopeful tomorrow.

Rabbi Wasserman was a judge in the rabbinical court in Ashdod. In his eulogy, the Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef called him a “scholar of wisdom and a virtuous individual,” and added that the “rabbinic courts will miss his majestic image that influenced only goodness and kindness.” After his retirement, Wasserman was appointed a dayan amit, a retired rabbinical judge who continues serving after retirement if there are empty seats on the bench. The assailants, two Palestinian brothers from the neighborhood of Tzur Baher in East Jerusalem, were shot dead. In a funeral attended by thousands, he was laid to rest at the Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.
