Sergeant (res.) Aviad Gad Cohen, z"l, was a member of the civil defense standby squad in Moshav Shlomit. He was called up to help defend the residents of nearby Moshav Peri Gan, where he died fighting off the terrorists.
Together with two members of the standby unit, they arrived first without an army at all, and began to wage a battle against the terrorists. They stopped the terrorists with their bodies and in a heroic battle saved the moshav of Peri Gan. Not a single person was killed or abducted in Peri Gan.
